KalaSaadhana believes in the transformative power of human creativity and celebrates it in all its forms—particularly through the Performance Arts. The KalaSaadhana Art & Dance Institute (KS-ADI) envisions itself as an anthropological bridge, connecting Dance, Theatre, Literature, and most importantly, people. With this vision at its core, KS-ADI continues to move forward, embodying its promise of “Art That Beats for Humanity.”
Humanitarian values
and social issues are the foundational tenets of ADI’s art projects, and they will continue to be the driving force behind our work. While we remain committed to building a deeper understanding of the roots of Tamil classical dance, Bharatanatyam, KS-ADI is equally passionate about infusing innovation and creativity into both the art form itself and its core content.
What we do:
Dance Dramas
At KalaSaadhana, we pride ourselves on having an in-house team dedicated to producing our own dance dramas. Originating from Southern India, Bharatanatyam carries a legacy that we explore through new permutations and combinations in performance art, offering a distinct contrast to established Western dance traditions. Our unconventional approach to Bharatanatyam challenges traditional views on how stories, narratives, and art are intertwined. The themes we choose are always inclusive and thoughtfully selected to reflect our core values. These themes are then infused with deep cultural and social relevance, exposing dancers to a wide range of genres and drama styles, thus offering kaleidoscopic performance experiences to our audiences.
Solo Performances – Arangetram:
We bring fresh perspectives to the Natya Arangetram by transforming unique ideas into thematic concepts. Our thematic Arangetrams explore subjects such as the 11 Forms of Natyam, Bharathi Poetry, and Women in Tamil Literature—distinct from traditional arangetram concepts, which often revolve around religion and devotion. These performances have been well received and critically acclaimed, pushing the boundaries of classical dance while maintaining its sacred traditions.
Classical Dance Training:
As part of our mission, the Art & Dance Institute conducts regular Tamil classical dance classes for children and youth, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of Tamil culture—from its classical roots to contemporary expressions. In addition to dance, we focus on educating our students about the cultural significance of facial expressions, movement vocabulary, and structure, all of which are integral parts of learning this beautiful art form.
Integration Through Art:
Simultaneously, ADI works towards the successful integration of Tamils living in Norway by using dance, theatre, music, and various forms of performance arts. Through our work, we aim to build a deeper connection to Tamil heritage while also fostering a sense of belonging and unity within Norwegian society.
Founded in 2001 in the picturesque city of Sandvika, Norway, Arts and Dance Institute (ADI) has set itself on a mission to promote Bharatanatyam and to leverage performance art as a powerful tool to spread one of the most universal thoughts from ancient Tamil literature, the Sangam corpus:
"All the places of the world are thy living place, All the peoples of the world are thy relatives."
Through dance, we aim to communicate this timeless message of unity, human connection, and shared humanity across cultures and borders.
